The sound of running from the outside of the gate school began to be heard, the heartbeat that was getting sharper and sharper was felt loudly. I am "Dhea" who was ready with a white t-shirt while justifying the flag with the others, turned our heads to see that there were still many friends of ours who had not entered the ceremony field. Today is Monday. Of course, it is a routine day for public schools to carry out a flag-raising ceremony before the start of classes. As usual, we started at 6.55 am until 8.00 am. But, there are still many friends and other students who are late.
"Ting Ting Ting"... The sound of hitting a bell was increasingly heard which was broadcasted directly by the school guard. So that, students who were still at the gate immediately entered the field or school area. My obligation today is to be the flag bearer accompanied by my two friends; Raka and Rama. Raka on my right and Rama on my left. It was exactly 6.55 am. Because there was already a master of ceremonies who was also ready to coach today's ceremony. Mrs. Irma will be the master of ceremonies today with her elegance and friendliness appearing to shine a blushing smile on both cheeks. The master of ceremonies also commanded swiftly and firmly. After the sequence of the flag ceremony was read by the master of ceremonies, it was time to raise the flag. I feel nervous but of course, this is not the first time I get, the obligation of being a flag bearer every 1 month. Suddenly have thrown so that my 2 relatives and friends are ready to follow my instructions. While raising the flag, the "Indonesia Raya" song was sung by the choir group. In about 5 minutes we finished raising the flag. The host also read out the next series of agenda
Exactly at 7.45 a.m., the master of ceremonies made an announcement and gave some advice and motivation to all of us. In between Mrs. Irma explained the importance of us as citizens to learn writing, by not abbreviating words that are not appropriate. Because we are already in high school and soon we will be faced with entering university exams. Mrs. Irma explained that there was an important announcement about English literature lessons. Because in my school there are several majors such as language that embrace English literature. Mrs. Irma announced that there would be a district-level poetry competition and then several writing competitions. Raka, who was standing next to me, grabbed my hand and said, "Hurry up and register for the competition, I'm sure for you, you can do it and it's already your specialty in literature!"
I was shocked and whispered, "No, ain't small enough to join the competition".
With side eyes that seemed unreceptive and disappointed, Raka glanced at me disappointedly. After the announcement was made during the ceremony, we hurriedly tidy up our equipment and entered our respective classes. Before entering the class I stood at the bulletin board while looking at the announcement.
"Puk" someone tapped my shoulder with a sweet smile and it was Mrs. Irma. "Are you interested Dhea? I can't wait to see your beautiful work".
I smiled embarrassedly and changed the subject. "Oh. Hello madam! What are we going to discuss today in literature class?".
Mrs. Irma smiled and took me by the shoulder and we entered the literature class in the morning.
We entered the literature classroom together and I immediately took over my seat in row number 2. "Assalamualaikum everyone! How are you, everyone?" And so, the class began. Today we discussed writing in poetry and dissected several poems from authors such as Sapardi Djoko Damono's "Hujan di Bulan Juni". At the end of the class session, Mrs. Irma discussed the competition in literature class.
"I'm looking forward to your beautiful works and you should immediately determine and register for the writing competition" Suddenly, Mrs. Irma approached my desk before leaving the class. "Dhea, when the break bell rings, follow me into the office". I was stunned while saying "Yes madam". I thought to myself as I put my books and school supplies into the classroom and went down the stairs, "What did Ms. Irma want to talk to me about?" I was always wondering.
Arriving at the office, I knocked on the door and went straight to Mrs. Irma's desk. "Excuse me, madam, what is it that you called me?" I asked when I was sitting in front of Mrs. Irma's desk. Mrs. Irma smiled and gave me a piece of paper. "This is your writing, isn't it? The title is very interesting "When I am fragile, there I must go on". Can I send your work for the competition?" I was shocked and immediately looked at the contents of my writing. "Sorry, Madam but this is just my writing when I was feeling upset and restless, and I accidentally collected it into a midterm writing assignment yesterday, because I was confused about what to write. So I just thought of the existing ones". Mrs. Irma smiled again and directed me to send my work, "If you don't mind, I will help you send your work to be published later, the problem of winning or losing, I have seen your writing is so good". I was silent while lamenting and in my heart said "Is it possible. How could it be?". And finally I said "Yes" to Mrs. Irma's request and direction. "Okay madam, it's okay if you just send me as a sample school representative in the Literature department". Mrs. Irma also smiled and said, "Okay, I will help you process so that your work can be published and become a representative of our school". We both smiled and shook hands
While started entering the classroom again for the next lesson because the break time was over.
2 weeks have passed since Mrs. Irma suggested that I joined the writing competition. But on this Thursday, Mrs. Irma did not appear at school. I didn't know where she was, so I wanted to ask other teachers but was embarrassed. Because I was afraid of being asked a lot about sending my work yesterday. "Drudug drug-drug" The noise of my class was heard to outside of the classroom. It must be, because my classmates were banging on the table while singing. I entered the class and sat next to my friend Fitri. "Where have you been Dhea?" Fitri asked. "I was looking for Mrs. Irma, she hasn't been seen at school lately". Fitri turned to me with a confused look on her face. "Didn't you know that Mrs. Irma is sick?". I was immediately surprised and grabbed both of Fitri's shoulders. "Really? Why didn't you tell me?". "I thought you already knew". Fitri made a confused face as she said. "How about we visit her later? Let's go to her house." I immediately said yes. "Ting ting" the school bell rang, signaling today's homecoming. Fitri and I hurriedly rode our bikes to Mrs. Irma's house. Arriving there we found her house deserted and seemingly devoid of people. "How is it Fit, there doesn't seem to be anyone. The doors and windows are closed." Fitri, who had been knocking on Mrs. Irma's door, said. "Is she in the hospital?" "Could be", I thought. "How about we go back tomorrow and let's ask the teacher at school too". Invited Fitri. "Alright, we'll try again tomorrow".
As we rode our bicycles home, we couldn't help but notice the rain. Fitri and I hurriedly accelerated our pace and finally, we arrived at our respective homes. Because our houses were neighbors and close. The next day. Arriving at school, I saw Mrs. Irma with my friends in the front yard of the school library. I immediately parked my bike and hurried to Mrs. Irma. Mrs. Irma smiled to see me in a group of friends who were blocking my face. "Dhea, come here. Everyone else please go to class. I have something to discuss with Dhea". "Yes madam," said my friends. Mrs. Irma handed me an award slip and said "Congratulations Dhea, you came third in the writing competition yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't have time to tell you this good news because I wasn't feeling well". I smiled happily and immediately hugged Mrs. Irma and shook her hand. "Thank you Madam for your help, even though my work yesterday was just a whim". "Congratulations also your work deserves to be published, it's okay you are not number 1 but remember you have dared to give your work you are already great and you have taken your time to write". Mrs. Irma said while holding my hand proudly.
Mrs. Irma: "Then how are you doing? Yesterday I heard you were sick". I asked while worried. "I'm fine. Yesterday, I just went for a walk and I got news from a neighbor that there were two students using bicycles knocking on my house all the time. It must be you?"
Me (Dhea): "Yea, it was me and Fitri, because we were worried and I also questioned the results of the competition collection".
Mrs. Irma: "Thank you for worrying about me, but I'm really fine. It's just that my stomach acid is rising. And I need enough rest."
Me: "Okey madam, get well soon, and thank you so much for supporting me".
Mrs. Irma: "Thank you also for representing our school Dhea. I'm sure your work and your hobby in literature will flourish soon".
We smiled and looked at each other proudly. Then I walked up the stairs to my class and Mrs. Irma walked to the teacher's office.
I am so glad! Even though, in this experience, I have not become number 1 at least I have contributed to a work of writing in developing my literature. I am also proud to have made my high school proud. Now I will be even more diligent in writing so that I can also become a famous writer like Asma Nadia or Mr. Sapardi Djoko Damono. Everything experienced in this life requires a process and gradually. I am sure that with the enthusiasm and encouragement of the people I love, I can grow and become a good writer or author later. The soft space of this heart is radiated by a burning spirit. When the heart becomes loud I try not to make it touch instantly. Awakening from an experience makes the first step and foothold of success. I, myself, and my soul can do it and proudly.
